Arctic Smocking
“Comeback Opulentia”
The project is a dive into the term “opulency” and a reflection on the shamanistic traditions in the polar region.
An arctic inspired material exploration operates as the base for a 10m silicon painted canvas, which is turned into a 3 dimensional shape through a hand-sewn smocking technique, a structure interpretation of the Icelandic knitting tradition. According to the light the perle shine effect changes the surface of the outfit from green to lila symbolising the northern lights.
